Repatriation of Five Myanmar Fishermen from India to Myanmar (14 February 2026, New Delhi)

Five Myanmar fishermen, who had been detained at the Special Camp in Trichy, India, after encountering a storm at sea on 8 November 2024, were verified as genuine Myanmar nationals and repatriated to Myanmar through an air transport arrangement under the cooperation program between Myanmar and India.
In order to facilitate their prompt return to Myanmar, the Embassy of Myanmar worked closely with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India, the relevant authorities in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu State, and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Trichy and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Following step-by-step procedures in accordance with established regulations and after completing all necessary formalities, the five fishermen departed from Chennai International Airport, India, at 09:35 a.m. (local time) on 14 February 2026 and arrived at Yangon International Airport, Myanmar, via Myanmar Airways International (MAI) flight number 8M-631.
