Myanmar Embassy in New Delhi Celebrates Myanmar Thingyan Festival 2026 (13-4-2026, New Delhi)
The Myanmar Embassy in New Delhi celebrated the Myanmar New Year Water Festival (Thingyan) on 13 April 2026 (Thingyan Eve) at the Embassy premises, in celebration and welcome of the advent of the Myanmar New Year 1388 ME.
The event was graced by Ambassadors and their spouses from ASEAN Missions in New Delhi, officials of the ASEAN–New Delhi Committee (ANDC), members of the ASEAN Ladies Circle (ALC), as well as Myanmar scholars in New Delhi.
H.E. Mr. Zaw Oo, Ambassador of Myanmar to India, extended New Year greetings and inaugurated the event with opening remarks. This was followed by a presentation on the cultural significance of the Thingyan Festival and the heritage value of Thanaka, a unique symbol of Myanmar culture. Among the highlights of the programme was a demonstration on the preparation and application of Thanaka in which guests actively participated. The celebration also featured vibrant Thingyan song and dance performances presented by staff and family members of the Embassy and the Office of the Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air), together with Myanmar scholars.
Guests were served a variety of traditional Thingyan delicacies. The event concluded with customary water-splashing activities, symbolizing purification, renewal, and the welcoming of the New Year.
